About Us

Kristine grew up in a military family, giving her a full understanding of the sacrifices our servicemembers and their families make while serving our country. She argued so strenuously for her positions as a teenager that her mother suggested she become the first lawyer in the family. Her brothers followed in their father’s footsteps and joined the military, urging Kristine to at least consider the JAG Corps.

Kristine didn’t like the idea of wearing a uniform and knew she would find another way to serve our country. Before and during law school, Kristine learned more about how public service and the law intertwine through her work with the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Armed Services. But she ultimately decided to hone her skills in the courtroom through two legal clerkships and working in private practice representing businesses in litigation.

During her private practice days in Washington, D.C., Kristine received training from the National Veterans Legal Services Program and began taking on pro bono cases for veterans at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

Shortly after receiving her accreditation through the VA to represent veterans at all levels of the claims process, Kristine met a self-proclaimed Midwest Cowboy from Cincinnati named Christopher Maher. Christopher had struggled to get an appropriate VA rating after a medical discharge from the Marine Corps. A few years later, they married, moved back to Cincinnati, started their family, and got Christopher to 100% permanent and total.

Kristine gradually realized over the years that helping veterans get what they deserved from the government was the most rewarding work she had ever done with her law degree. She became extremely passionate about using her legal expertise and experience to battle the government on behalf of veterans and began to focus her time solely on that endeavor. Kristine is a proud member of the National Organization of Veterans’ Advocates.

Today, Kristine and Christopher often work as a team serving veterans through Maher Veterans Law and NightMaher Projects. When they aren’t battling the government or trying to help veterans heal holistically from their time in service, they focus on their children: Walter, Leo & Dani.
